Yoga San Miguel offers classes in the Iyengar style (http://www.bksiyengar.com). For students new to yoga or new to the Iyengar method, classes introduce the basic poses, principles of movement and posture, yoga philosophy and simple relaxation techniques.

In Iyengar yoga, weak parts are strengthened and stiff parts are stretched, thus awakening and realigning the whole body. Mr. Iyengar invented a variety of props such as belts, blocks, benches, etc. to enable everyone to practice the postures, regardless of age or level of fitness.  Benefits include increased vitality, strength, and flexibility as well as reduction of stress and anxiety.

B.K.S. Iyengar has several million students worldwide. There are Iyengar Yoga Centres in most countries around the world and it is widely accepted that Iyengar teachers are among the best trained in the world.

Margaretta Sander is a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher with 30 years practice and teaching experience.  She has studied in Canada, the USA, England and Mexico.  She travels regularly to study with the Iyengars at their Institute in Pune, India and with Geeta Iyengar in a seminar for certified teachers held in the USA. 

Her approach to teaching is to have fun while safely engaging in the disciplined practice of yoga.  She helps students understand the body’s limitations as well as its desire to move more deeply into yoga poses.

Learning to “let go” and experience body sensations begins the dialogue with our inner-most selves; a skill that transfers into more awareness of our approach to life’s challenges outside the yoga studio.
